Now I am on the Board... What's Next?
Congratulations!
You've been elected to the Board of your association, be it an HOA, Condominium or Co-op. You stood before your peers, explained yourself, and they elected you from the field. It is sometimes a hard-fought experience.
Now what?
Being on a Board, let alone leading one, can be a daunting experience. One County in Maryland- Montgomery- and others across the country already require mandatory Board training for anyone that volunteers their time. For many that's just the beginning; thousands of dedicated volunteers pour over rules and regulations, by-laws, new legislative determinations from the state and Counties, contractor proposals, and financials for associations, to name a few.
But where does one acquire the expertise to do these things? Well, there are many sources available. Our website includes a lot of material on former meetings and classroom sessions that can help, as does the Community Associations Institute, of which ACM is a member, as are many other management companies. Many contractors, from insurers to bankers to landscaping are excited to explain to anyone who asks the intimate details of their side of tasks.
If you have any questions, please contact us. We'd love to help.
Thank you,
Christian Klarner, MA, CMCA
